The previously "new" Intrepid Explorers host got attacked by their old support vender, who was not happy about getting fired. They apparently used their knowledge of the company's network architecture to "virtually" destroy it. They have lots of rebuilding to do so I moved the site to yet another host. I sitll need to recover some of the pictures from the old server, so, there may be some placeholders here where some pics should be. This will be temporary though. Everything is backed up except for pics from the last 30-40 days.

This is what happens when a company wants to save a buck by outsourcing support to another country....and the fact that they (the fired-outsourced comapny) retaliated shows why you don't do business with low-life, low-bidders in a foreign land. Kind of makes you wonder which outsourced company is worse, the one who got fired and broke the system, or the new one who can't get it fixed quickly.

If anyone knows of a way to defray some of the costs to run this site, feel free to jump in with their ideas.
It only costs me about $20.00 a year but it does cost Mike ( Nuge ) quite a bit more as he maintains the site using his own servers.
We are happy to run the site for you and our personal enjoyment. But it would be nice if we also didn't have to pay for it out of our own pockets too. Not complaining, no white house whining about Fox News here, just fair and balanced reporting.

I guess you could try opening it up to advertisement but besides being obnoxious, I think the income from that is driven by how much traffic there is and I don't think there is much on this site.

Another permutation might be sponsorship from atv related enterprises. I'm a member over at AR15.com and they have a lot of sponsors, but they also have a LOT of members and a LOT of traffic. Someone could be a sponsoring member and hawk their wares for a nominal fee. It's prostitution, but then what isn't?

The other option is to pass the hat..............

Or you could sell T-shirts, stickers, hats, rebranded gear.............

Glad the site is out of ICU.

I'm looking at Google AdSense ads that would be banners among the forum pages....folks at this forum could click on one of the links every now and then and the site would generate a few bucks over time.

Another idea is maybe some bumper stickers with the logo for ATV's and cars...sell them for a few buck over what they cost....something like $5 will buy you a few.

I know it was Brads intention to keep this site free....I'd like to honor that...but there is a *little* overhead. The rest is just volunteer time for something we all enjoy.

I have no idea how much time energy or money it talkes to keep this site going, I sure miss it when it's down. (thanks for getting us back up and running) I like the Idea of hats/shirts with a logo, just not sure if that would be a money maker.

Or how about a special tax on people who own Vinsons? :rotfl:

You could create a special class of "supporting members" who kick in a few bucks. Give them a gold star, a bigger avatar, and maybe some "special" privileges. Our old friend RobG did that and I was stupid enough to help buy shoes for a dead horse! :oops2:

We could have a library of GPS tracks available to supporting members.

.......some of those tracks are priceless! I noticed about 2 dozen tracks of exactly where we've been.

Shirts/hats/stickers would be cool if we could come up with a good logo that can be made to fit different sizes and layouts.

I checked into stickers and it's possible to make about a 30-40% return on selling a couple at $5 -$8 dollars....depending on the sizes and quantity oredered.

We could sell the GPS waypoint for Bass Camp for a couple thousand bucks alone. :rotfl:

That's a little like selling your sister's virtue (if your sister is named Cat)!

Just remember, the first trick you turn is hard, it gets easier to be a whore after that. Just ask a politician!

NevadaBob,

If anyone knows of a way to defray some of the costs to run this site, feel free to jump in with their ideas.

I finally got your private message.

A check for $25 is in the mail today. I spend that much driving to the P.O. picking up my mail each week, and Intrepid Explorers is a whole lot more fun.
